Dental Emergencies

Dental Emergencies Service in Downtown Montreal – Your Dental Emergency Destination

In the case of dental emergencies, the sooner you seek treatment, the better. It is even possible for Dr. Michel Youssef to save a tooth that has been knocked out if you can get treatment within an hour. Dr. Michel Youssef offers Dental Emergency Service that is prompt and compassionate to relieve pain and restore oral health. We will solve the immediate problem and offer follow up care to prevent or correct further problems.

What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?

Any dental problem that requires immediate attention because of possible tooth loss or severe pain is a dental emergency. If a tooth is knocked loose or completely out, or if you have ongoing bleeding or severe swelling or pain, you should see a dentist right away.

Fractured or Cracked Teeth

Any part of a tooth can be cracked. The crack may be visible, though this is not always the case. If you experience pain when chewing food, or if teeth suddenly become sensitive to hot and cold, you may have a cracked tooth. Any pain associated with a cracked tooth tends to come and go. This can make it more challenging for our Montreal dentist to locate the crack, especially if it is very small.

Anyone who suspects that they have a cracked tooth should make an appointment with Dr. Michel Youssef as soon as possible. Leaving a cracked tooth untreated may lead to more problems, pain, and discomfort over time.

Loose Dental Crown or Dental Filling

If your crown or filling is becoming loose, you may notice symptoms before it is lost. A loose filling may expose a tooth’s nerve, and so pressure applied to the tooth will give you an unpleasant sensation. You may also notice the bristles of your toothbrush catching on a loose crown or the crown shifting in your mouth. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should call your dentist right away.

Dental crowns and fillings become loose for a number of reasons. If the capped tooth continues to decay there may not be enough left to hold the crown in place. Crowns can also become loose if the bonding cement weakens over time. Eating a lot of chewy foods such as candy and gum can pull a crown or fitting loose, and habits such as teeth grinding at night or using your teeth as tools to open bottles can all lead to a crown or filling becoming loose and falling out.

Severe Toothache

While a toothache can take many forms, those that suddenly become unbearable or those that pop up out of the blue can quickly make life miserable and may require an emergency dental visit. While you wait, rinse your mouth with warm water, check for lodged-in food (use dental floss). Never place an aspirin against the gum of an aching tooth as it can cause burns.

Quality Emergency Dental Care

We handle all types of dental emergencies, from crowns, bridges, and fillings, to root canals. We have an in-house endodontist for root canal treatment and surgery. The important thing is, if you are experiencing pain, contact us right away. Oral pain is a response to a problem, not the sign that one is beginning, so the sooner our dentist is able to investigate the source, the sooner we can fix it. Call us today!
